Der auffällige Wasserspeicher in Bierbeek, auch bekannt als der Wasserturm auf Bovenheide, machte im Juli 2011 Schlagzeilen, als eine tote Taube ins Wasser gefallen war. Das Ergebnis war, dass das Trinkwasser für zahlreiche Gemeinden, die diesen Wasserturm mit Wasser versorgen, nicht trinkbar war. Der kuppelförmige Wasserturm hat ein Volumen von 500 m³ und ist 29 Meter hoch, ohne die zahlreichen Antennen auf der Kuppel... Er versorgt neben Bierbeek auch die Pellenberg-Klinik, einen Teil von Kessel-Lo (Trolieberg), Lubbeek (hohes Netz), Blanden, Haasrode und Lovenjoel.
