La caratteristica torre dell'acqua a forma di globo di Bierbeek, conosciuta anche come la torre dell'acqua di Bovenheide, è stata al centro delle notizie nel luglio 2011 quando un piccione morto è caduto nell'acqua. Il risultato è stato che l'acqua potabile non era utilizzabile per diversi comuni che ricevono acqua da questa torre. La torre dell'acqua a forma di sfera ha una capacità di 500 m³ ed è alta 29 metri, escluse le numerose antenne sulla cupola... Serve, oltre a Bierbeek, anche la clinica Pellenberg, una parte di Kessel-Lo (Trolieberg), Lubbeek (rete alta), Blanden, Haasrode e Lovenjoel.
