Die heutige Kirche stammt aus dem Jahr 1764. Die vorherige Kirche wurde am Weihnachts-tag 1763 durch ein Feuer zerstört. Der Schutzheiliger von Ledegem ist der Heilige Petrus in den Banden. Dieser wird verehrt für das, was im Volksmund als „das Katherinawiel“ bekannt ist. Die Kirche besitzt einen prächtigen Kanzel und vier schöne Beichtstühle sowie einige wertvolle Gemälde. „Die Auferstehung des Lazarus“ von Joseph Ducq (Ledegem 1762 - Brugge 1829) stammt aus dem Jahr 1800 und ist eine Kopie eines Gemäldes aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. Joseph Ducq ist ohne Zweifel der bekannteste Künstler aus Ledegem. Die Sint-Petrus-Kirche wurde am 23. Juli 1993 als Denkmal geschützt.
