Das Rathaus der Charleroi
Das Rathaus der Stadt Charleroi wurde 1936 eingeweiht – ein klassisches monumentales Gebäude, bei dem geometrische Linien und die verwendeten Materialien (roter und schwarzer Marmor, Bronze, Messing, Schmiedeeisen) Art-déco-Akzente setzen.
Das Innere ist mit zahlreichen Statuen dekoriert, die den Ruhm der Stadt, ihren Wohlstand und industriellen Reichtum preisen sollen. Nur der Gemeinderatssaal enthält ein malerisches Werk in sieben Tafeln. Sie entsprechen sieben Fenstern mit Glasmalereien, die die Wappen der Kantone des Bezirks Charleroi darstellen.
Als Hauptwerk der bürgerlichen Architektur wurde der Belfried des Rathauses in die Liste des Weltkulturerbes der UNESCO aufgenommen.
