Das aktuelle Schloss hatte einen Vorgänger, der 1476 als ein umgräbtes Haus mit Pachtgarten beschrieben wurde. An dieses ältere Gebäude erinnert noch eine gotische Mauer aus Mergel.
Im Jahr 1617 wurde das Schloss und die Herrschaft von Ernest von der Mark-Arenberg an Jan-Willem von Scharenberg verkauft. Dieser ließ das heutige Schloss erbauen. 1688 wurde alles an Pierre-Louis de Sluse de Bihain verkauft, da Baron von Scharenberg unter Schulden litt. 1763 folgte eine Umgestaltung im klassizistischen Stil durch Jean Ferdinand de Sluse. Die älteste bekannte Darstellung des Schlosses wurde 1740 von Remacle Leloup geschaffen.
