Die Sint-Michielskerk sollte auf etwa 138 Meter Höhe aufragen, wurde jedoch nie fertiggestellt. Offiziell aus Sicherheitsgründen. In Wirklichkeit waren die Pläne jedoch viel zu übertrieben und die Kasse nicht ausreichend gefüllt. Hinter der Kirche, am Wasser, erstreckt sich das Pand. Das alte Dominikanerkloster und Krankenhaus gehört heute der Universität Gent und wird als Kultur- und Kongresszentrum genutzt.
