De Sint-Michielskerk zou ongeveer 138 meter hoog moeten zijn, maar is nooit afgebouwd. Officieel om veiligheidsredenen. Maar in werkelijkheid waren de plannen veel te megalomaan en was de kas niet voldoende gevuld. Achter de kerk, aan de waterkant, ligt het Pand. Het oude dominicaanse klooster en ziekenhuis is tegenwoordig eigendom van de Universiteit van Gent en wordt gebruikt als cultureel en congrescentrum.
