Geologisch trifft man hier in dieser Region nicht allzu viele Steine an. Und das ist sogar euphemistisch ausgedrückt. Es gibt hier keine Natursteine zu finden. Daher wurde meine Neugier durch den Toponym "Steentjesbos" geweckt. An sich kommt "Stein" oder "Kiesel" in vielen flämischen Toponymen vor, da dies einen Hinweis auf Gesteine gibt, die im Untergrund ans Licht kommen. Aber die gibt es hier nicht. Woher könnte dann dieser Name kommen? Ein Infotafel am Rand des Waldes gibt die Erklärung:
"Das Steentjesbos verdankt seinen Namen den Waldwegen, die mit verbleibenden Steinen eines gallo-römischen Gebäudekomplexes gepflastert sind."
