Das Naturschutzgebiet "het Burreken" liegt an der Grenze von Brakel, Maarkedal und Horebeke. Es ist eine einzigartige Kombination aus Wäldern, Tälern, Hügeln, Flora und Fauna. Darüber hinaus herrscht eine bemerkenswerte Stille.
Das Burreken wird von Natuurpunt verwaltet, die regelmäßig geführte Wanderungen organisieren.
Außerdem verlaufen zwei beschilderte Wanderwege durch das Gebiet: die Eikelmuisroute (7,5 km) und die Vuursalamanderroute (7 km).
