Het natuurgebied "het Burreken" is gelegen op de grens van Brakel, Maarkedal en Horebeke. Het is een unieke combinatie van bossen, valleien, heuvels, fauna en flora. Bovendien heerst er een opmerkelijke stilte.
Het Burreken wordt beheerd door Natuurpunt, die er op regelmatige basis begeleide wandelingen organiseert.
Daarnaast lopen er twee bewegwijzerde wandelroutes door het domein: de Eikelmuisroute (7,5 km) en de Vuursalamanderroute (7 km).
Praktisch
In Maarkedal is het Burreken toegankelijk via de Ganzenberg of de Korteberg - 9688 Maarkedal.
