Das Kunstwerk ist eine bronzene Skulptur in Lebensgröße. Es wurde unter anderem auf der Grundlage von Fotomaterial aus den frühen 60er-Jahren des damaligen Champetters Petrus Ferbiest realisiert. "Ich besuchte die Familie des letzten Champetters. Sie hatten immer noch die Jacke der Originaluniform für mich und einige alte Fotos," sagt Christa Alaert.
Das Bild entstand durch das Entfernen von Material aus einem Block. Dazu sind im Vorfeld die erforderlichen Studien- und Skizzierarbeiten notwendig, um alles gut zu positionieren. Ende Juli war die Statue fertig und wurde zum Bronzegießer gebracht, um nach dem Wachsausschmelzverfahren gegossen zu werden.
