Liebhaber extremer Sportarten, Mountainbiker und Wanderer haben sie zu ihrem Lieblingsspielplatz gemacht. Die Treppe wurde im 19. Jahrhundert angelegt, um die im Zitadelle stationierten Truppen schnell ins Stadtzentrum zu bringen, wenn die Stadt angegriffen wurde. Doch damals wurde sie vor allem von den Soldaten genutzt, um schneller die Cafés und anderen Kabaretts zu erreichen.
