Das 280 Hektar große Naturschutzgebiet Maaswinkel umfasst das Gebiet zwischen der Maas, dem Zuid-Willemsvaart und der E314. Im Zentrum liegt eine landschaftlich und ökologisch wertvolle Zone mit Wiesen, Wiesenflächen, Hecken, Äckern und Gehölzen. Die Landschaft der Überflutungsgebiete ist biologisch wichtig aufgrund der vielfältigen Pflanzen- und Tierwelt. Besonders Pflanzen mit einer Vorliebe für Wasser kommen hier auf ihre Kosten. Die regelmäßige Überflutung der Überflutungsgebiete mit Maaswasser sorgt dafür, dass der Boden reich an Nährstoffen ist.
