Nach den Ergebnissen von topographischen Studien sollen sich die Franken im 4. und 5. Jahrhundert in der Region Jodoigne niedergelassen haben, wobei ein gewisser Gobert eine Rolle bei der Entstehung der Siedlung Gobertange gespielt haben könnte. In Gobertange selbst, aber auch in Herbais wurden merowingische Gräberfelder entdeckt. Sie datieren aus der zweiten Hälfte des 7. oder des 8. Jahrhunderts. Einige der Gräber waren mit grob gespaltenem Kalksandstein eingefasst und mit großen flachen Steinen abgedeckt.
