Según los resultados de los estudios toponímicos, los francos se habrían instalado en la región de Jodoigne en los siglos IV y V, con un tal Gobert desempeñando un papel en la creación del pueblo de Gobertange. En Gobertange mismo, pero también en Herbais, se han descubierto campos funerarios merovingios. Estas datan de la segunda mitad del siglo VII o del VIII. Algunas de las tumbas estaban bordeadas de piedra de caliza tallada en bruto y cubiertas con grandes piedras planas.
