An der Stelle des früheren Dorfes befinden sich jetzt die Antwerpener Erdöllager. Bis zur Änderung war Oosterweel das am tiefsten gelegene Dorf Belgiens. Im Jahr 1900, auf dem Höhepunkt, lebten dort 1075 Einwohner.
Westlich des Antwerpener Nordschlosses ist an der Kastelweg in der Tiefe noch die alte Kirche von Oosterweel und eine Brücke an der ehemaligen Oosterweelsesteenweg als Denkmal erhalten.
