Hier lässt die unmittelbare Umgebung des Kanals kaum Raum für die Natur. Uferbepflanzungen in Schotterkörben (metallene Körbe), die an den Uferwänden befestigt werden, sorgen für Verschönerung und Begrünung der Wasserwege und nehmen zudem sehr wenig Platz in Anspruch. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem wallonischen Maison de la Pêche hat die Stadt Lüttich im Rahmen eines Pilotprojekts die Ufer eines Zuflusses der Maas und ein Hafenbecken auf diese Weise angelegt. Die Wurzeln der halbwasserliebenden Pflanzen (Iris, Schilfrohre, ...) an diesen Ufern sind übrigens gut für die Entwicklung des Lebens im Wasser (Larven, Fische,...).
