Über den Namen des Teiches der Ertrunkenen Kinder, der auf den Hoefijzervijver folgt, haben sich bereits viele Wanderer den Kopf zerbrochen. Im 18. Jahrhundert soll eine Legende entstanden sein, die die Geschichte von den drei Söhnen eines Holzfällers erzählt, die am selben Tag ertrunken sein sollen. In Wirklichkeit bezieht sich der Name jedoch überhaupt nicht auf ein Ertrinken, sondern auf die Kinder eines Müllers und ihren Nachnamen, 'Verdroncken'.
