Sul nome dello Stagno dei Bambini Annegati, che segue lo Stagno del Ferro di Cavallo, molti escursionisti si sono già scervellati. Nel XVIII secolo sarebbe nata una leggenda che racconta la storia dei tre figli di un boscaiolo che sarebbero annegati lo stesso giorno. In realtà, il nome non fa affatto riferimento a un'annegamento, ma ai bambini di un mugnaio e al loro cognome, ‘Verdroncken’.
