Die Bergbau- und Töddengemeinde Recke liegt im Norden der westfälischen Region Tecklenburger Land . Eines der am besten erhaltenen Moorgebiete in Nordrhein-Westfalen befindet sich im nordöstlichen Gemeindegebiet.
Das Gemeindegebiet Recke liegt im nördlichen Gebiet des Tecklenburger Landes im heutigen Kreis Steinfurt. Es erstreckt sich von den Ausläufern des Teutoburger Waldes im Osten bis in die Dümmer-Geestniederung im Westen, sowie vom Buchholzer Forst im Süden bis zum Landschafts- und Naturschutzgebiet des Recker Moores im Norden. Durchzogen wird das Gebiet von der Recker Aa und dem Mittellandkanal. Im Westen der Gemeinde befindet sich das Naturschutzgebiet Heiliges Meer – Heupen.
