Rosenthal war bis zur Bildung Groß-Berlins im Jahr 1920 ein selbstständiger Gutsbezirk und eine Landgemeinde im Norden Berlins. Das Dorf wurde 1356 erstmals als Rosendalle urkundlich erwähnt.
Mit der Eingemeindung wurde der größere Teil dem neuen Bezirk Reinickendorf zugeordnet. Der kleinere Teil kam als Ortsteil Berlin-Rosenthal zum neuen Bezirk Pankow.
