Im Jahre 1752 ließ Kurfürst Clemens August die Reste der an dieser Stelle stehenden Paulsburg abtragen und das Zeughaus errichten. Es diente den in der Festung diensttuenden Soldaten als Lagerraum für ihr „Zeug“: Munition, Waffen, Uniformen und Kriegsgerät. Im 19. Jahrhundert waren dort eine Zichoriendarre und eine Seifensiederei der Firma Frye ansässig. Nach vielfachen baulichen Veränderungen befindet sich das Gebäude heute im Besitz der Familie Sanders, die es auch bewohnt. Über der Tür an der rechten Wand ist die Kopie eines steinernen Reliefs zu sehen, dessen Original im Museum untergebracht ist. Es wurde wohl anlässlich der Hochzeit des Ehepaars Frye gefertigt und zeigt Adam und Eva am Baum der Erkenntnis sowie die Familienwappen.
