Die Bezeichnung Soratfeld stammt vom mittelhochdeutschen Wort „sor“ = „karg“ „trocken“ oder „ärmlich“ ab. So besteht die landwirtschaftliche Nutzung des Soratfeldes hauptsächlich im Anbau von Getreide. Allerdings ist die karge Hochfläche mittlerweile zum fruchtbaren Land für die Energiegewinnung geworden. Einer der größten Binnen-Windparks Europas und prägt das Landschaftsbild nördlich von Lichtenau. Rund um das Soratfeld erstreckt sich, im Kontrast zur kargen Hochfläche, eine reizvolle Tallandschaft mit einer vielfältigen Tier- und Pflanzenwelt.
