So kommt es auf dem Kontinent zur Schlacht von San Quintín, nach der Invasion Neapels durch die Franzosen, und zur Schlacht von Gravelines, während im Mittelmeerraum die Eroberung Korsikas durch Frankreich, in Händen der hispanogenuesischen Kräfte, vorbereitet wird, sowie Angriffe auf Nizza, in den Händen des Hauses Savoyen, das mit Philipp II. im Krieg gegen Frankreich verbündet ist.
