Zo vinden er op het continent de Slag bij San Quintin plaats, na de invasie van Napels door de Fransen, en de Slag bij Gravelines, terwijl er op het gebied van de Middellandse Zee de verovering van Corsica door Frankrijk, in handen van de Hispano-Genoese, en aanvallen op Nice, in handen van het huis Savoye, bondgenoot van Filips II in de oorlog tegen Frankrijk, werden voorbereid.
