Die Basilika Santa Maria d'Alacant befindet sich am Platz Santa Maria im historischen Zentrum der Stadt. Es ist die älteste Kirche von Alacant, gotisch aus dem 15. und 16. Jahrhundert, über den Überresten der alten Hauptmoschee.
Laut der Chronik von Bendicho war es König Alfons X. von Kastilien, der die Moschee um 1248 unter dem Schutz der Jungfrau Maria weihte. Der Bau der neuen christlichen Kirche begann etwa 1280 und dauerte bis 1308. Dieser erste Tempel musste am Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts oder zu Beginn des folgenden zerstört worden sein, da Überreste des Brandes in der Plementerie der Gewölbe gefunden wurden.
