Real Instituto Jovellanos ist der Name eines der ältesten Bildungszentren Spaniens. Es wurde in Gijón von Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos als eines der aufgeklärten Projekte gegründet, die er im Fürstentum Asturien realisierte. Die Idee, ein Bildungszentrum zu schaffen, das in Bergbau und Marine ausbildet, entstand im Zusammenhang mit den Projekten zur Ausbeutung der Minen, die zu Beginn der Erschließung der Kohlevorkommen im asturianischen Bergbaugebiet eröffnet wurden, sowie dem Bau einer Straße, die es mit dem Hafen von Gijón verband.
