Der Palais Bourbon wurde zwischen 1722 und 1728 für Louise Françoise de Bourbon, Herzogin von Orléans und ehebrecherische Tochter von Ludwig XIV. und Madame de Montespan, errichtet. Er wurde von vier aufeinanderfolgenden Architekten entworfen: Giardini, Lassurance, Jean Aubert und Jacques Gabriel. Nach dem Tod der Herzogin wurde das Palais Bourbon umfassend ausgebaut und während der Französischen Revolution beschlagnahmt. Als Nationalgut beherbergte er während der Restauration und des Zweiten Kaiserreichs kurzzeitig ein Gefängnis, eine polytechnische Schule und die Abgeordnetenkammern, bevor er ab 1879 zum Sitz der Nationalversammlung wurde.
