Il Palais Bourbon fu costruito tra il 1722 e il 1728 per Louise Françoise de Bourbon, duchessa di Orléans e figlia adultera di Luigi XIV e Madame de Montespan. Fu opera di quattro architetti successivi: Giardini, Lassurance, Jean Aubert e Jacques Gabriel. Dopo la morte della duchessa, il Palais Bourbon fu sottoposto ad ampi lavori di ampliamento e fu confiscato durante la Rivoluzione francese. Divenuto proprietà nazionale, ospitò per breve tempo una prigione, una scuola politecnica e la Camera dei Deputati durante la Restaurazione e il Secondo Impero, prima di diventare la sede dell'Assemblea Nazionale dal 1879.
