Das Theater von Verdun ist ein Werk des Architekten Chenevier, das 1893 fertiggestellt wurde und sich an der Opéra Garnier in Paris orientiert. Der Saal im italienischen Stil wurde am Ufer der Maas an der Stelle einer durch einen Brand zerstörten Getreidehalle errichtet. Wie die öffentlichen Gärten und andere Promenaden gehört er zu den typischen städtischen Verschönerungs- und Freizeitarbeiten des 19.
Jahrhunderts. Promenaden, Musikpavillons und Theater gehörten zu diesen Orten, die für die Belebung einer Garnisonsstadt notwendig waren.
