el teatro de Verdún, diseñado por el arquitecto Chenevier y terminado en 1893, se inspiró en la Ópera Garnier de París. El teatro, de estilo italiano, se construyó a orillas del Mosa, en el emplazamiento de un mercado de cereales destruido por un incendio. Al igual que los jardines públicos y otros paseos, forma parte del embellecimiento urbano y las actividades de ocio típicas del siglo XIX.
Los paseos, los quioscos de música y los teatros eran algunos de los lugares necesarios para la animación de una ciudad de guarnición.
