Anhand von Schriftstücken lässt sich feststellen, dass die Kirche von Baptresse aus der Karolingerzeit stammt.
Die Kirche war der Nachfolger eines gallo-römischen Tempels. Vor der Fassade der Kirche wurde 1835 ein gallorömischer Altar für vier Götter entdeckt: Mars, Vulkan, Herkules und Merkur, der seitdem im Museum von Poitiers aufbewahrt wird.
Auf dem ursprünglichen Friedhof hinter der Kirche befindet sich ein interessantes kleines Monument, ein Hosanna-Kreuz.
Diese charmante kleine Kirche dient heute als Ausstellungsort.
