Vierzehn der Bewohner des kleinen Dorfes Lahardane (Einwohner 500) in Mayo, Irland – und zwei Crew-Mitglieder, die ursprünglich aus Lahardane stammen, insgesamt sechzehn – segelten im April 1912 auf der Titanic. Als sie sank, überlebten nur 3 der 14 aus Lahardane, was diesen Ort zum folgenreichsten in der Geschichte der Titanic macht.
Heute hat die St. Patrick's Kirche in Lahardane eine Plakette, die an die Katastrophe erinnert, und am 9. April 2012 wird es eine "Reise 'Titanic Memorial Cruise'" anlässlich des 100. Jahrestages der Katastrophe geben.
