Quattordici degli abitanti del piccolo villaggio di Lahardane (pop 500) nella contea di Mayo, Irlanda - e due membri dell'equipaggio, originari di Lahardane, per un totale di sedici - si imbarcarono sull' Titanic nell'aprile del 1912. Quando la nave affondò, solo 3 dei 14 di Lahardane sopravvissero, il che rende questo il luogo più disastroso associato alla storia del Titanic.
Oggi la St Patrick's Church di Lahardane ha una targa in memoria del disastro e il 9 aprile 2012 ci sarà una "Travel "Titanic Memorial Cruise", in occasione del centenario del disastro.
