Venedig ist eine Stadt im Nordosten Italiens. Sie ist Hauptstadt der Region Venetien und der Metropolitanstadt Venedig. Venedig trägt den Beinamen La Serenissima . Das historische Zentrum liegt auf mehr als 100 Inseln in der Lagune von Venedig.
Die Gesamtfläche Venedigs beträgt 414,6 km², davon entfallen 257,7 km² auf Wasserflächen. Am 31. Dezember 2019 zählte die Stadt 259.150 Einwohner, davon 179.794 in den Stadtteilen auf dem Festland, 52.996 im historischen Zentrum und 27.730 innerhalb der Lagune. Die Lagune erstreckt sich über etwa 50 km zwischen den Mündungen der Flüsse Adige im Süden und Piave im Norden in die Adria.
