Venetië is een stad in het noorden van Italië, de hoofdstad van de regio Veneto en van de gelijknamige metropolitane stad. De bevolking bedraagt 266.181 inwoners, in een gemeente van 421 km² waarvan de stad Mestre, op het vasteland, en de eilanden Murano, Burano en andere kleinere eilanden afhankelijk zijn. Het grenst aan de gemeenten Campagna Lupia, Cavallino-Treporti, Chioggia, Jesolo, Marcon, Martellago, Mira, Mogliano Veneto, Musile di Piave, Quarto d'Altino, Scorzè en Spinea.
