Die Kirche wurde nach einem Entwurf des Mailänder Architekten Cecilio Arpesani für Kardinal Maffi von Pisa erbaut. Es wurde im Juli 1916 eingeweiht.
1919 wurden die Bilder der Lünetten von Ludovico Pogliaghi modelliert, wie Ugo Nebbia in seinem Ludovico Pogliaghi gewidmeten Buch erwähnt. In denselben Jahren erhielt Pogliaghi den Auftrag, die Kandelaber-Engel für den Dom von Pisa herzustellen.
Die Kirche ist der Sitz der Gemeinde; Von 1981 bis 1989 war Giovanni Santucci, der jetzige Bischof von Massa Carrara-Pontremoli, Pfarrer der Gemeinde.
Das Gebäude im neuromanischen Stil mit deutlichen Bezügen zur pisanischen Romanik hat eine markante Fassade auf zwei Ebenen: Die untere Ebene ist mit blinden Arkaden geschmückt, während der obere Teil von einer Reihe kleiner Bögen beleuchtet wird, die die zentrale Rosette umrahmen .
