Mecher ist ein Dorf und Verwaltungszentrum der Gemeinde Clervaux im Bezirk Diekirch des Kantons Clervaux. Es ist etwa 48 km von der Stadt entfernt, Luxemburg.Al Ende des sechsten Jahrhunderts und vor allem die siebten Missionsmönche, Jünger von St. Willibrord, christianisierten die Region. Sie waren es, die in diesem Tal in den Ardennen den Weinanbau einführten, um Wein für den Gottesdienst zu gewinnen. Einmal im Jahr, im Oktober, fand im Dorf ein großes Fest statt, bei dem alle Einwohner diesen Wein probieren durften, der dann an die umliegenden Klöster und Pfarreien abgegeben wurde.
