Mecher es una villa y centro administrativo de la comuna de Clervaux del distrito de Diekirch en el cantón de Clervaux. Está a unos 48 km de distancia de la ciudad de Luxemburgo. A finales del siglo VI y especialmente en el VII, monjes misioneros discípulos de san Willibrord cristianizaron la región. Fueron ellos quienes introdujeron el cultivo de la vid en este valle de las Ardenas para conseguir el vino para el servicio divino. Una vez al año, en el mes de octubre, se celebraba una gran fiesta en el pueblo donde se les permitía a todos los habitantes degustar este vino, que luego era entregado a los monasterios de los alrededores y a las parroquias.
