Mecher is a town and administrative center of the municipality of Clervaux in the district of Diekirch in the canton of Clervaux. It is about 48 km away from the city of Luxembourg. At the end of the 6th century and especially in the 7th, missionary monks who were disciples of Saint Willibrord Christianized the region. They were the ones who introduced the cultivation of vines in this valley of the Ardennes to produce wine for divine service. Once a year, in the month of October, a great festival was celebrated in the village where all the inhabitants were allowed to taste this wine, which was then delivered to the nearby monasteries and parishes.
