Grootegast () war eine Gemeinde im Nordosten der Niederlande, in der Provinz Groningen. Die Gemeinde hatte 12.133 Einwohner und war 87,74 km² groß.Grootegast war eine ländliche Gemeinde. Es gab einige kleine Dörfer, unter anderem Lutjegast. Auf Niederländisch bedeutet groote dabei groß und lutje klein. In Lutjegast wurde 1603 der Seefahrer Abel Tasman geboren. Es gibt kein Geburtshaus mehr, aber ein Denkmal und eine Straße erinnern an ihn.
