Die Grenzstadt Eede [d’Ee] in Westzeeland erhielt nationale Bekanntheit wegen einer ‚Mehlstraße‘. Am 13. März 1945 betrat Königin Wilhelmina (die Urgroßmutter von König Willem-Alexander) nach fünf Jahren Exil zum ersten Mal wieder niederländischen Boden. Die Monarchin wählte Eede, weil dieser Ort, wie die gesamte Region, enorm schwer unter dem Kriegsgeschehen gelitten hatte. Unter lautem Jubel der einheimischen Bevölkerung trat Wilhelmina über eine aus weißem Mehl gezogene Linie, eine hastig angebrachte symbolische Kennzeichnung der Landesgrenze.
