Es liegt im Südwesten der Stadt Leeuwarden und im Norden von Sneek, zwischen Winsum und Baard. Bei dem Dorf treffen der Franekervaart und der Bolswardertrekvaart zusammen, der auch als Het Kruiswater bekannt ist und an dem ein Campingplatz liegt. Der Dorfkern liegt etwas westlich der N384. Im Jahr 2021 hatte das Dorf 415 Einwohner. Zum Dorf gehören auch die Weiler Schrins, Wammerd und Wieuwens. Auch das einzige noch verbliebene Haus des ehemaligen Weilers Langwerd gehört zu Oosterlittens.
