Delfshaven ist ein Verwaltungsbezirksgebiet der Gemeinde Rotterdam. Delfshaven hatte 2019 76.215 Einwohner und eine Fläche von 5,80 km². Ursprünglich war Delfshaven ein Teil von Delft. 1795 wurde es eine selbständige Gemeinde, um 1886 von Rotterdam annektiert zu werden.
Delfshaven entstand 1389, als die Delfshavense Schie gegraben wurde, um der Stadt Delft eine Verbindung zur Maas zu geben. Seitdem konnten die Schiffe aus Delft über die Delftse und Delfshavense Schie die Neue Maas erreichen. Rund um die Schleuse entstand die Hafenstadt 'Delfshaven'. Es hatte den Status einer 'Kolonie von Delft'. Ein Rückschlag in der Entwicklung fand statt, als am Ende der Hoekse und Kabeljauwse Streitigkeiten (um 1490) die Hoeken enorme Verwüstungen anrichteten. Zu Beginn des 16. Jahrhunderts zählte Delfshaven etwas mehr als 100 Häuser und 400 Einwohner.
