Schoondijke ist ein echtes landwirtschaftliches Dorf. Es bestand bereits 1248. Damals hieß es Vuyldijke. Während des Achtzigjährigen Krieges wurde es zerstört. 1652 erschienen wieder Häuser. Ursprünglich war es dann als Willemsdorp bekannt. Später zogen die Bewohner Schoondijke vor, zweifellos inspiriert von dem ursprünglichen Namen. Obwohl die Bedeutung der Landwirtschaft abgenommen hat, ist der landwirtschaftliche Charakter rund um Schoondijke weiterhin deutlich vorhanden. Die landwirtschaftliche Atmosphäre findet man im Dorf auch in Form von Statuen, wie Das Pferd, Der Säemann und Das reifende Getreide.
