Das Schloss Selwerd war im Mittelalter ein außerhalb der Stadt Groningen errichtetes verstärktes Steinhaus. Es ist genau bekannt, wo sich dieses Schloss befand, nämlich nordwestlich der Stadt Groningen, neben dem heutigen Friedhof Selwerderhof, zwischen dem Van Starkenborghkanaal und der Paddepoelsterweg. Dort liegt das hügelige Grasland, das die Huppels genannt wird, der historische Standort des Schlosses Selwerd. Es kann von einem Aussichtsturm aus überblickt werden, der an der Laan naar het Klooster platziert ist. Dies verweist auf das Kloster Selwerd und ist ein ehemaliger Lehmweg, der auf einer Karte aus dem 18. Jahrhundert verzeichnet ist. In den neunziger Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts fanden auf diesem Gelände mehrfach archäologische Forschungen statt. Das Gelände ist seit 1975 ein geschütztes archäologisches unterirdisches Rijksmonument.
