Opduin wurde ursprünglich 1913 als Wohnhaus an der Promenade von Schiermonnikoog erbaut. Auftraggeber waren Arnoldus Onnes, Wein-Importeur in Groningen, und seine Ehefrau Allagonda Barghoorn. Durch die Erosion der Nordseite der Insel ist die Promenade in der Nordsee verschwunden. Um Opduin, ebenso wie das nahegelegene Haus Anagber, zu retten, wurde das Haus zweimal abgerissen und neu aufgebaut. Seit 1922 steht das nahezu kubusförmige Wohnhaus nördlich des Badwegs und Anagber südlich des Badwegs. Das Haus wurde während des Zweiten Weltkriegs von den Deutschen als Munitionslager genutzt. Aufgrund des Zustands, in dem sich das Gebäude befand, wurde beschlossen, das Anwesen vollständig zu restaurieren. Im Jahr 2008 wurden die Restaurierungsarbeiten an dem Gebäude abgeschlossen. Auch die Fensterläden, die im Laufe der Zeit verschwunden waren, wurden wieder angebracht.
