Opduin was originally built in 1913 as a house on the boulevard of Schiermonnikoog. The client was Arnoldus Onnes, a wine merchant in Groningen, and his wife Allagonda Barghoorn. Due to the erosion of the north side of the island, the boulevard has disappeared into the North Sea. In order to save Opduin, as well as the nearby Anagber house, the house was demolished and rebuilt twice. Since 1922, the almost cube-shaped house has stood north of Badweg and Anagber south of Badweg. The house was used by the Germans as an ammunition depot during World War II. Due to the condition of the house, it was decided to completely restore the building. In 2008, restoration work on the property was completed. The window shutters, which had disappeared in the course of time, have also been reinstalled.
