Schönes Gaasterland wurde 1912 im Auftrag der Maatschappij Gaasterland von dem Haager Architekten M.J. van der Schilden gebaut. Er entwarf das Gebäude in einem Stil, in dem Merkmale des Chaletstils verarbeitet sind. 1925 wurde die Villa von der Utrechter Stiftung Volksgesundheit erworben, um als Kinderferienkoloniehaus zu dienen.
