Der Oude Zederik ist ein Kanal in den Niederlanden, der Teil der hydrologischen Grenze der Alblasserwaard und Utrecht ist. Zederik ist ein alter germanischer Name, dessen älteste bekannte Schreibweise Serich ist. Später änderte sich dies in Seric, Zerike und schließlich in Zeerik oder Zederik. Was der Name Zederik genau bedeutet, lässt sich nicht mit Sicherheit sagen. Am wahrscheinlichsten ist, dass der Name Zederik ein regionaler Gattungsname war, also ein Begriff, mit dem ein Wasserabfluss bezeichnet wurde, der außerhalb oder an der Außengrenze des kultivierten Moorlands lag.
